GRADUATE ADMISSION

The University of Nairobi has diversified academic programmes and specializations for post graduate courses in sciences, applied sciences, technology, humanities, social sciences and the arts. Through self-sponsored programmes, invaluable opportunity has been opened to Kenyans and non-citizens to further their education.

The general admission guidelines about graduate programmes i.e. postgraduate diploma, masters and doctor of philosophy, offered at the University of Nairobi, are as indicated below:

Admission Criteria

Doctor of Philosophy Degree

  • Holders of a Masters degree from the University of Nairobi or other equivalent qualification from institutions recognized by Senate.
  • Submit a research proposal showing that one is capable of carrying out an original research.

Masters Degree

  • Holders of a Bachelors degree at upper second class honours from the University of Nairobi or other institutions recognized by Senate.
  • Holders of a Bachelors degree at lower second class honours from the University of Nairobi or other Institutions recognized by Senate, with two years relevant post qualification experience.
  • Holders of a pass degree and a Postgraduate Diploma from the University of Nairobi or Institutions recognized by Senate.
  • Holders of a pass degree from the University of Nairobi or other Institutions recognized by Senate with at least five years relevant post qualification experience.
     

Postgraduate Diploma

  • Holders of a Bachelors degree with a minimum of a pass from the University of Nairobi or other institutions recognized by Senate.

Mode of Study

The mode of study is flexible and a student can study on full-time or part-time basis or even by distance learning.

Fees

The fees vary from one programme to another and also by the mode of study. The current fees for local and international students are available at the respective Faculties, Schools, Institutes and Centres. They are also available at the Graduate School.

Commencement Dates

Most programmes commence in September/October with a few part-time programmes starting in January and May. We also have school-based programmes during the April, August and December holidays.
