CARTA in collaboration with Graduate School trained Supervisors and PhD Students from the College of Biological and Physical Sciences on Postgraduate Supervision in a two day workshop on November 23 - 24 2017, at Gracia Gardens Hotel in Nairobi.

The objectives of the training was to discuss the status of research and doctoral training in Africa, production of trainers in PhD supervision, regularization of PhD training and supervision at the University of Nairobi, Innovative approaches to PhD supervision at the University and the influence on PhD training regulatory framework at University of Nairobi.

Among the facilitators were Prof P. Ngure from APHRC, Prof. B. Thole from University of Malawi, Prof. D. K. Kariuki from University of Nairobi, Dept. of Chemistry and Prof L. Njenga the Director Graduate School. Thematic areas covered during the workshop were status of Research and PhD training in Africa, PhD concept development and engagement of supervisors, proposal writing stage and registration, Data collection/ experimental stage, UoN Policy implications and, Examination and post-graduation stage.

The two day workshop was officially opened by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, RPE Prof. Lucy Irungu. Among those who gave remarks during the official opening were Prof. L. Njenga Director, Graduate School, Prof. B.O. Aduda Principal CBPS, Prof. C. Nyamai Dean School of Physical Sciences, Dr. J. Gichuru the Director Operations at APHRC.
