UoN School of Law Alumni Chapter launch

The President of the Judiciary, Chief Justice David Maraga, braced the launch of the University of Nairobi School of Law Chapter launch at the Manu Chandaria Auditorium on June, 8, 2017.

Speaking during the launch, the President of Supreme Court, praised the School of Law, for being one of the finest Law Schools in the world. The school has produced legal practitioners working in various sectors of Kenyan economy. UoN scholars are working in Parliament, Judiciary, and civil society and virtually in every sector of the economy.

He said that the biggest challenge to the development in Kenya is corruption, “We are all corrupt, and we love impunity therefore urgent action needs to be taken before we descend into anarchy”. He further emphasized on the need to mentor young legal professionals to be men and women of integrity.

In his concluding remarks, the Chief Justice urged students and alumni of the School of Law to keep the UoN brand and protect the image of the school. He challenged the administration to benchmark with the best law schools in the world like Harvard School of Law.

Among the notable objectives of the Alumni Association include; construction of the Alumni Center, establishment of the effective alumni team, digitization of the alumni database and focus on the membership drive. Alumni of Law School were called upon to support the construction of the ultra-modern School of Law Tower that will cost approximately Kshs. 1.8 Billion. The donations can be in cash or in kind by supporting the construction of given floors or facilities that will be named after them.

Other notable speakers at the launch were The Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi, Dean, School of Law, Prof. Kiarie Mwaura, Counsel Fred Ojiambo, Lawyer Monari and Chairman of the University of Nairobi Alumni Association (UONAA), Mr. Isaac Awuondo.
