The African Postdoctoral Training Initiative

The African Academy of Sciences (AAS), the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation are partnering under the auspices of the Coalition of African Research & Innovation (CARI) to establish a post-doctoral training fellowship program, the African Postdoctoral Training Initiative (APTI).  Training will be at a world class institute, the intramural laboratories of NIH. APTI fellows will train in a global health research area of priority for their home institutions and countries, and AAS, BMGF and NIH, while building bridges and lasting connections between the partner organizations and African scientists and institutions. While at the NIH, the fellows must be on leave or sabbatical from their home institution under the NIH Intramural Visiting Fellow Program (https://policymanual.nih.gov/2300-320-3). The research priority areas are in infectious diseases, nutrition, and reproductive, maternal, and child health and developing skills for clinical and translational research.

Doctor of Science thesis presentation by Prof. Julius Ogeng’o

The Graduate School celebrates and congratulates Prof. Julius Ogeng’o, the 5th DSc. candidate, on his milestone achievement as he presented his DSc. in Human Anatomy. He presented his work entitled 'Insights into and Anatomical perspectives of Atherosclerosis among Kenyans’ in a well-attended public presentation on March 19, 2018. This thesis is based on over 100 peer reviewed full journal publications.

According to the regulations for Higher Doctorates of the University of Nairobi, a thesis for the Higher Doctorate degree shall be defended before a public audience provided that while members of the public shall be free to ask the candidate questions relevant to the subject of his/her thesis, only the panel examiners, shall participate in the final assessment of the thesis and the candidate’s performance in defense of the same.
