UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI ANNUAL TALENTS DAY

This years UoN talents day will be held today 12th March, 2021 from 9.00AM to 3.00PM at Taifa Hall. The event is hosted by University of Nairobi Students Association. This is a chance to see the UoN's best acts on one stage as they showcase their singing abilities, dancing skills amongst other talents.

UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI RANKED POSITION 1 IN KENYA ONCE AGAIN

University of Nairobi once again takes the lead in Kenya according to the January 2021 Webometrics ranking. In Africa, University of Nairobi clinched position 13 with the top 12 positions being taken up by South African and Egyptian universities.

UoN was at Position 1 in East Africa and 1052 in a total of over 30,000 universities ranked globally.

Webometrics ranks universities based on Impact, Openness and Excellence parameters in its ranking. UoN ranked 1181 in Impact, 615 in Openness and 1625 in Excellence parameters.

SOCRATES MAJUNE AWARDED WINNER OF THE 2020 TRADE ECONOMIST THEMATIC AWARD

Congratulations to Majune Socrates who was the winner of the 2020 Trade Economist Thematic Award, a competition for specific research, which this year focused on how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected trade and trade policy. His paper, “The Effect of Lockdown Policies on International Trade Flows from Developing Countries: Event Study Evidence from Kenya” was praised by the Selection Committee. He received a prize of CHF 5,000.

Majune Socrates is a PhD student in the School of Economics at the University of Nairobi and is also a Syliff Fellow.

CONGRATULATIONS GRADUATES OF THE 64TH GRADUATION CEREMONY

The Graduate School wishes to congratulate all graduates conferred various degrees during the 64th University of Nairobi Graduation Ceremony. A total of 5,709 degrees were conferred with 66 PhD Awards, 2 Fellowship Awards,1,206 Masters Degree Awards and 69 Postgraduate Diploma Awards. There were also 348 Diploma Awards and 4,018 Bachelor Degree Awards.

UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

The University of Nairobi marks 50 years since it was transformed into the first national University in Kenya on July 1, 1970.

The University of Nairobi owes its origin to several developments in higher education within the country and the region. The idea of an institution for higher learning in Kenya goes back to 1947 when the Kenya Government drew up a plan for the establishment of a technical and commercial institute in Nairobi.

By 1949, this plan had grown into an East African concept aimed at providing higher technical education for the region.

64TH VIRTUAL GRADUATION CEREMONY: 66 GRADUANDS TO BE AWARDED PHD

66 PhD graduands are set to graduate during the virtual 64th University of Nairobi Graduation Ceremony to be held on Friday 11th, December 2020. The Graduate School wished to congratulate all the PhD graduands for the great achievement.
